Tovaglia, tovagliette pl/eng

Dziś krótki wpis o ciekawym elemencie włoskiego ubioru. Tovaglia, tovagliette bo o nim mowa to  rodzaj chustki noszonej głównie we Włoszech południowych - Neapolu, Kalabrii, Gaecie, przynajmniej od końca XVI aż do początku XX w. Widzimy ją na wielu przedstawieniach chłopek i Cyganek. Poniżej kilka przykładów z różnych epok. 

Today short entry about an interesting element of Italian clothing. Tovaglia, tovagliette is a kind of shawl worn mainly in southern Italy - Naples, Calabria, Gaeta, at least since the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th century. We can see it on many depictions of peasants and Gypsies. Below You can see some examples from different times.

Czym jest owo tovaglio, albo jak  pisze Vecellio tovagliette? Samo słowo oznacza ręcznik, albo podkładke/narzutke. Długo zastanawiałem się jak to  jest skonstruowane. Była to dla mnie czysta magia. Okazało się że jak z każdą sztuczką magiczną wyjaśnienie jest banalnie proste. Z pomoca  przyszedł opis w książce Charlesa Holme, Peasant Art in Italy. Okazuje się że jest to  jeden kawałek materiału, złożony na pół. Jedna połówka następnie składana jest wzdłóż na trzy i już. Gotowe. Poniżej schemat i dokładniejszy opis:

What is this tovaglio, or as Vecellio writes - tovagliette? The word itself means a towel, or a pad. I wondered for a long time how it was constructed. It was pure magic for me. It turned out that, as with any magic trick, the explanation is trivial. The description in Charles Holme's book, Peasant Art in Italy, came to the rescue. It turns out that this is one piece of material, folded in half. One half is then folded into three and that's it. Finished. Below is the diagram and a more detailed description:

Potrzebny nam bedzie kawałek materiału.  Ja użyłem lnianego ręcznika szerokiego na 50  i długiego na 150 cm. Można użyć trochę dłuższego lub krótszego - zachęcam do eksperymentów.
1. Składamy kawałek materiału na pół.
2 i 3 Składamy jedną z połówek wzdłóż. Warto dobrze zagiąć te trójkąty, można zaprasować całość, żeby się lepiej trzymała.
4. Odginamy tak powstały ogon do góry - jak widzicie powstała "kieszeń" w którą wkładamy głowę.

You will need a piece of cloth. I used a linen towel 50 cm wide and 150 cm long. You can use a little bigger or smaller one - I encourage you to experiment.
1. Fold a piece of material in half.
2 - 3 Fold one of the halves lengthwise. You need to fold these "triangles" well. You can iron the whole thing to make it more firm.
4. Bend the resulting "tail" up - as You can see there is a "pocket" in which You have to put Your head.

Tył można pozostawić szeroki, albo zagiąć krawędzie do środka.

You may leave back  of the cloth wide or fold it inside to make it narrower.
